Use the peripheral catalog to find the parts fitted to your board and add them to your project. Embedder then works from their datasheets when you ask about registers, initialization, or wiring. The catalog has 5,860+ entries across 11 categories. These pages are for browsing. The picker in VS Code and the CLI shows the catalog that is currently available to you.

Add a part to your project

  1. Select a project. /peripheral appears only when a project is selected.
  2. Run /peripheral. In VS Code, you can also choose Open project peripherals in the chat header.
  3. In My peripherals, choose Add peripherals.
  4. Search for the part number. Search also matches the manufacturer, category, tags, and interface.
  5. Select each part whose part number and manufacturer match your board:
    • In VS Code, click the row to add it to the Shortlist, then choose Add.
    • In the CLI, press Space to select the row, then press Enter.
The parts appear in My peripherals with their linked datasheets. Parts already on the project can’t be added again. In VS Code they’re marked Added. If your project has schematics or documents attached, the picker shortlists parts it recognizes in them. Check these suggestions against your board revision before you add them. You can also ask in chat, for example Add the W25Q128JV from Winbond to this project. Embedder asks for approval before it adds the part, unless you skip approvals. If the name matches more than one entry, it asks which one you mean. Adding a part gives Embedder its documentation. It doesn’t write a driver. When you ask for driver or configuration changes, include your wiring, bus address, and board constraints.

Choose the right entry

  • Match the full part number and the manufacturer. Several entries can have similar names.
  • Some parts appear more than once, for example under both ON Semiconductor and onsemi. Each row is a separate catalog entry. Pick the one whose manufacturer and description match your part.
  • Confirm the specifications, package, voltage, and bus in the manufacturer’s datasheet. The descriptions and tags here help you find a part; they don’t replace the datasheet.
  • Sections titled Entries needing identification hold entries with incomplete or conflicting catalog labels. You can find them in the picker by the label shown. Establish the exact part before you rely on its specifications.

Read the tables

Larger category pages group their entries by primary tag in expandable sections. Each table has these columns: Each entry is listed on one category page. A few entries are filed here under a corrected category, and the picker’s category filter may still show them under their original one. If a category view in the picker doesn’t show a part, search for its part number instead.

If your part isn’t listed

Add it as a custom peripheral from its PDF datasheet:
  • In VS Code, choose + Add a custom peripheral in the picker, then + Browse PDF files. Enter the exact part number as the Peripheral name.
  • In the CLI, choose Add a peripheral at the top of the picker. Enter the Peripheral Name, then select the PDF files.
